In England over 250,000 people a year are reported missing. These adults and children are missing for many different reasons. The overwhelming majority of people are missing by choice. They are running away from abusive relationships, debts, or a troubled home or family life. Often these people are depressed, desperate and some see disappearing from society as their only escape. Other missing people are mentally ill, Altzheimers sufferers for example often become disorientated with their surroundings, they wander off and then ultimately become lost. Most of these types of missing people will be found or will return home within a couple of days. Over 100,000 of all people reported missing are under eighteen years of age. These young people often run away to large cities in the hope of finding a new home, life, friends and bettering their often tragic situations. However the reality that these young runaways face is often full of drugs, homelessness, begging and prostitution. Another growing category of missing children is Parental Abduction. The increases of this specific type of abduction is largely due to the ever growing separation and divorce rates. The majority of these offences occur during court ordered visitation rights. Unfortunately the biological attachments the children share with there kidnapper does not always ensure their well being or personal safety. The last category of missing people is mysterious disappearance. Not much is known about the mysterious disappearance of adults and children for it is often the case that these adults and children are never found. In most cases there are no clues, no specific time or place of abduction, no witnesses and no suspects. People simply just vanish! It is true to say that the majority of these people, if found at all are found dead, but new technology, criminal psychology, neuroscience and profiling advancements are evolving all the time thus aiding the detection of these particular abductors.
